Secure document verification
Tamper-evident NFC labels that bind physical documents to verifiable digital identity. Issued once. Verifiable anywhere. Revocable at any point in the document lifecycle.
Issued once. Verifiable anywhere. Revocable at any time.
A TrueTap tamper-evident label applied at issuance creates a permanent, non-repudiable link between the physical document and a unique digital identity registered to the issuing authority.
Document fraud operates at scale
Physical documents - certificates, titles, permits, and instruments - remain the primary target of fraud in legal, academic, and government contexts. Visual inspection and holographic seals provide inadequate assurance against skilled forgery.
When a document cannot be independently verified against an authoritative registry, every inspection becomes a judgement call. Fraudulent documents proceed. Legitimate ones face unnecessary scrutiny.
Forged academic credentials
University degrees and professional certificates are reproduced with increasing fidelity. Employers and licensing bodies cannot rely on visual inspection to distinguish genuine from counterfeit.
Altered land title deeds
Property title fraud involves modification of ownership records on existing documents. Without a cryptographic anchor to an authoritative registry, alterations are difficult to detect after the fact.
Fraudulent legal instruments
Contracts, powers of attorney, affidavits, and court documents are targets for fabrication and amendment. Each fraudulent instrument undermines the downstream transactions that depend on it.
Tampered civil certificates
Marriage, birth, and death certificates underpin entitlements, inheritance, and identity claims. Fraudulent variants circulate in contexts where the issuing authority cannot be reached in real time for verification.
TrueTap labels: cryptographic identity for physical documents
A TrueTap label applied at issuance creates a permanent, non-repudiable link between the physical document and a unique digital identity registered to the issuing authority.
Tamper-evident construction
The NFC label is designed so that any attempt to remove or reapply it results in visible destruction of the label. Physical integrity is verifiable on inspection before the chip is even read.
Embedded secure NFC chip
Each label contains a secure NFC chip provisioned with a unique cryptographic identity at the time of issuance. The chip responds to verification challenges with a result that cannot be reproduced without the original hardware.
Unique identity per label
No two TrueTap labels share an identity. Each label is individually registered to the issuing programme at provisioning. Duplication of the physical label does not replicate the cryptographic proof.
Bound to the issuing authority
The digital identity record is held under the issuing organisation's programme. Verification results are authoritative statements from the issuer, not inferences from the document's appearance.
From issuance to verification
A linear, auditable chain from document creation through every subsequent inspection.
The issuing authority produces the physical document through its standard issuance process.
A TrueTap tamper-evident label is affixed to the document at the point of issuance. The label is bound to the document physically; removal destroys it.
The label's unique chip identity is registered against the document record in the TrueTap platform, linked to the issuing authority's programme.
Any NFC-enabled smartphone or reader initiates a secure challenge–response with the chip. No proprietary hardware or installed application is required for the verifying party.
The platform returns a definitive result: authenticated, revoked, or unknown. The result is logged with a timestamp for audit purposes.
Documents that require non-repudiable authenticity
TrueTap secure document verification is applicable wherever the authenticity of a physical document has material legal, financial, or administrative consequence.
University degrees and academic certificates
Credential fraud undermines hiring decisions, professional licensing, and academic integrity. NFC-verified degrees allow employers, licensing bodies, and governments to confirm authenticity directly against the issuing institution's registry - without contacting the institution.
Land title deeds
Property title fraud causes significant financial losses and legal disputes. A TrueTap-labelled title deed creates a verifiable link to the land registry record. Any alteration to the physical document renders the label unreadable or returns an authentication failure.
Marriage and civil certificates
Civil status documents - marriage, birth, divorce - are relied upon for residency applications, inheritance, and benefits claims. Chip-verified documents give receiving institutions a direct verification path that does not depend on inter-agency communication delays.
Death certificates and probate documents
Estate administration relies on documents that are presented to financial institutions, courts, and government agencies by parties with a direct interest in the outcome. Cryptographic verification reduces exposure to forged instruments in probate and succession proceedings.
Financial instruments
Bearer instruments, guarantees, and letters of credit present verification challenges in cross-border contexts. NFC-labelled instruments can be verified against issuer records without relying on correspondent relationships or document couriers.
Legal documentation
Contracts, powers of attorney, court orders, and notarised documents require authenticity assurance when presented in contexts where the issuing authority is not present. TrueTap provides a self-contained verification mechanism.
Integration paths for issuing organisations
TrueTap secure document verification is available under three deployment models, depending on the issuing organisation's technical capability and programme scale.
SDK / API integration
Integrate TrueTap label provisioning and verification into existing issuance systems via REST API or mobile SDK. Suitable for organisations with established document management infrastructure. Full developer documentation available.
Custom platform via HSA.dev
For organisations requiring a bespoke document management and verification platform, HSA's development practice builds custom systems to programme specification. See hsa.dev for enterprise platform capabilities.
Full system deployment
End-to-end delivery: provisioned label supply, issuance workflow, verification surfaces, programme management, and operational support. For large-scale government or institutional programmes.
Built for document programme requirements
Tamper-evident labels
Physical construction ensures that label removal or relocation destroys the chip. Tampering is visually apparent before electronic verification is attempted.
Cryptographic verification
Each tap initiates a challenge–response exchange. Verification outcomes are produced by the platform, not inferred from the chip's static data. Replaying a previous tap does not yield a valid result.
Audit logs
Every verification event is timestamped and logged. Issuing authorities can review the complete verification history for any document - including where and when it was presented.
Revocation
Documents can be revoked in the platform at any time. Revoked documents return a clear revoked status on subsequent taps, regardless of the physical label's condition. Supports cancellation, expiry, and supersession workflows.
Mobile verification
Verifying parties use any NFC-enabled smartphone. No proprietary reader hardware or installed application is required. The verification result is delivered via a web response accessible on any device.
Implement cryptographic document authenticity
TrueTap secure document verification is deployed for issuing authorities, government agencies, and institutions where document fraud has material consequence. Contact the team with your programme context and scale.
